The judges presume that impersonal eternal standards can serve as the basis for passing judgment upon the propriety of transient subjective relationships. That which is objective is presumed to be more worthy of respect than that which is subjective. That which lasts a long time is presumed to be more valuable than that which exists in the eternal now which clocks cannot measure. That which many can experience and represent in formal symbols is preferred to that which is shared by only two or a few, and which has yet to be adequately represented symbolically. These preferences occasion alienation and the breakdown of social integrity; they do not promote the common well being or doing. The problem is to recognize the way to pass sound judgments upon such perverted preferences. All judgments should be based upon experience, not upon untested theory. The more consistent are the experiences the more sound may be the judgments which are based upon those experiences. The more people who have certain experiences and the more frequently they have those experiences---the more should they be attended to. Care must, however, be taken to avoid becoming the victim of experiences which are occasioned by collusions. Millions of people are capable of participating in collusions which occasion perverted and misleading experiences. Safety is not always to be found in the agreement of many people. Often the soundest judgment is to be found in the personal experiences of two or a few unconventional persons who through creative insight have transcended the collusions of the culture around them. Within the mutual support of an intimate friendship the few may transcend the perversions of the many. The many need to be open to the judgments which may originate in the fellowship of the unconventional. For this reason freedoms of communication need to be extended to all and promoted. The technocrats should be open to the judgments which the few may substantiate via their personal experiences in small groups. The alienation of technocratic behavior is more likely to be evident to persons involved in intimate relationships---than to experts studying human relationships via computer. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
