For lack of mature adult role models, they take their lead from the few adult role models they know---and copy immature behavior. Logic is no match for the lead of many immature role models who are respected---because they form a consistent sub-culture which represents the adult world to a child is unfamiliar with adults of a mature adult sub-culture. The child needs mature role models---more than the child needs logic, sermons, admonitions, rewards, punishments, etc. The role models must be present to the child in a way which is meaningful to the child. The child must feel good about personal relationships with mature adult role models. If the adults enter into negative personal relationships with the child, it is unlikely that the child will regard such adults as positive role models. For this reason authoritarian parents, surrogate parents, school teachers, and administrators are not likely to be accepted as positive role models by children. The child may very well rebel against what such authoritarian parents represent to the child. Children's education would be enriched by working cooperatively with non-authoritarian adult role models--- in tasks which are meaningful to the children. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
