Socialization may occasion the splitting of perception into exclusively objective and subjective domains---and prohibit any refusal to internalize that splitting---due to a preference for maintaining an integrity in which objectivity and subjectivity are not mutually exclusive modes of approach to reality. The socialization process regarding the subjective vs objective dichotomy begins with the way a newborn infant first experiences human contact and non-verbal messages---and how the parents respond to the infant's exploration of self and surroundings. The parents who are exclusively objectively oriented and fearful of their own sensuality and subjectivity---are likely to introject into the infant fear of sensual pleasures and awareness of the deepest self-perceptions. The child will learn to regard the world as separated from self, and the self as a separate entity which is examining the separated world with objective detachment. Curiosity regarding sensual experiences which cannot be understood meaningfully in such a dichotomous modality---will be curiosity which gets repressed---for it will threaten the world-view of the parents. Initiatives which indicate the operation of such threatening curiosity---will be punished---least the parents' world-view be undermined. Sexuality involves in an essential way curiosity and initiatives which threaten the exclusivity characteristic of the objective/subjective dichotomy. Meaningful sexual pleasures cannot be understood and manipulated within the modality of the objective/subjective dichotomy. Thus, those who fearfully maintain the dichotomy, occasion the repression of infant and childhood curiosity and initiatives pertaining to sexual relationships, pleasures, and fulfillment. That repression may kill curiosity and initiatives far beyond the domain of sexuality. The child may learn the lesson that all curiosity and all initiatives are dangerous---not only those pertaining to an artificially circumscribed fragment of real living ensymboled with the name "sexuality".
