Technical commitments are specific and require the fulfillment of definite expectations. Technical commitments pertain to seeking to attain goals which are chosen in advance and are definite. Technical commitments call for those making the commitments to maintain control of themselves and of others who might undermine the fulfillment of expectations. For this reason those making technical commitments must understand the processes which pertain to whether or not the commitments will be fulfilled; i.e., a very wide range of processes. Thus, those making technical commitments undertake control of a wide range of situations, unless the technical commitments are of very specific limited natures. Non-limited technical commitments tend to become ultimate in nature and concern. Examples of non-limited technical commitments are: some marriages, war, some professional choices, many business ventures, and political campaigns. Non-technical commitments in one way or other pertain to the fulfillment of love. They: Are not specific, do not require the fulfillment of definite expectations, do not pertain to the seeking of the attainment of goals which are definite and chosen in advance, do not call for those making the commitments to maintain control of themselves and others, do not require people to analytically understand themselves and processes about them, permit mystery, and are mysterious themselves. Non-technical commitments are incompatible with the analytic imperative and so are in contention with technocrats who equate "good" with technical commitments only. The exclusivity of technical commitments tends to fragment those making them and others who are vulnerable to those making technical commitments. Those who seek to avoid such vulnerability tend to make technical commitments to attain the goal of invulnerability---and thereby compound the problem they were trying to solve. Technical commitments do-not resolve ultimate-dilemmas. Love does. Dilemmas are not technical problems. There is no technical solution by which to resolve a dilemma. Wars do not resolve dilemmas. Dilemmas pertain to conflicted human relationships. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
