Self-seeking individuals cannot achieve the impartiality which is essential to true justice. Those who arrogate unto themselves power to control others, lack the humility needed to intimately know the conditions which call for justice. Those who are blinded by a passionate desire to fulfill all techniques, are also blinded to human cries for non-technical solutions to non- technical problems; i.e, to dilemmas. Those who fear the responsibility of directing great power are impotent to answer the cries of those who seek justice. Those who fear suffering cannot bring themselves to get genuinely involved in the lives of those who are suffering injustice---and so cannot know what justice demands of them. Justice cannot be computed on the basis of past decisions alone. To attempt to do so is to invite the continuation of past injustices as well as to travel by the light of past loving fulfillments of the call for justice from the powerful. The fulfillment of justice is not a technical matter at heart, although technical considerations may be an essential aspect of the way to justice. Technocrats do not promote humane justice because their narrow vision prevents them from being aware of non-technical considerations. Their exclusive preoccupation makes the legal profession the wrong occupation for them --- it is full of their kind already, and no more are needed. The legal profession is in need of members who in a personal way know the meaning of love and what it demands of justice and power. God is love. Justice is related to justification. Through Justification people are acceptable to each other and can communicate with each other --- alienation is transcended. Real justice helps transcend alienation by helping promote social conditions which members of the society perceive to be as fair as resource limitations permit. Formal institutional procedures which promote alienation are not just, no matter by what name they are called. Formal institutional procedures tend to be technical procedures to the exclusion of real personal relationships. The exclusion of real love makes formal institutional procedures impotent to answer cries for meaningful justice. Love, power, and justice are not separable. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
