This is at the level of intuitive arational living. At the rational level, self seeks a program for success which has been validated by previous successes, and systematized according to understandings of cause and effect. Actions which are known to have lead to failure in the past are thus to be avoided, in favor of actions which have lead to no failure in the past; success having been defined as the absence of failure. Success is further defined as the grounds for affective affirmation, in order to motivate others to seek a program for success according to the rational understanding of cause and effect. Real persons subjected to such a program for the creation of successful behavior are fragmented, according to how susceptible they are in their developmental stage, how sustained the subjugation is, and how great the contrast between the demands of reason and the calls of arational intuition. When self experiences an absence of affective surprise in the present affective life, through fantasy and imagination self seeks levels of affective behavior which are outside the bounds of the current life---in an effort to compensate for the absence of affective surprise. This seeking on the part of self is self- defeating because it tends to increase the disparity between fantasy and reality, thus reducing the frequency and occasions of affective surprise through new and unexpected affective affirmations by others. Thus, individuals who regard healthy affective affirmations as perversions (and so the failures, and so not-success, and so the absence of grounds for affective affirmation) tend to generate conditions in which the absence of affective surprise drives others to seek (through fantasy and imagination) new and different forms of affective affirmation which are in turn regarded by some as more extreme perversions. Thus, the fragmentation of rationality and arationality via a feed-back loop intensifies itself upon the initiative of those who presume to prevent it through full control techniques based on the knowledge of good and evil, cause and effect.
