The systematic consideration of the results of systematic manipulation of portions of objectified reality--- generated a revolution in the states of consciousness of many persons. The state of consciousness of the observer of scientists is quite in contrast to the state of consciousness of the participant scientist. Both participate in the creation of the contradictions present in authoritarian science. The latter lacks integrity because it fails to focus on the science relevant experiences of real persons---as the ultimate authority. Real persons are asked to accept on authority---the theoretical interpretations of the nature of reality as perceived by technocrats using the techniques which they have devised without mutual awareness of the limitations of science. There results a collusion---in which persons mutually accept self-images of themselves as science- competent, or science-incompetent. The science-competent become the new persons-with-power to suggest technical solutions to the problems of our technocratic society. Upon their authority political action is taken to "solve" human "problems", and the peoples perish. In this way the foundations of democracy are undermined. The power of real persons to participate in political action is reduced---because they are judged to be incompetent to make value judgments regarding which technical solutions are the best ones. Only technocrats are judged to be competent to make such value laden decisions. The estrangement of technocrats from real persons combined with the tendency to consider technocrats to be authorities---leads to the use of inhumane techniques to try to "solve" what are essentially human dilemmas. Consider the ways in which military leaders have tried to "solve" human problems through war---in defiance of democratic principles and without respect for participants. Consider the ways in which penitentiary and mental hospitals have treated their patients. Consider the ways in which transportation experts have divided our cities with ribbons of concrete. Consider the ways in which doctors have developed techniques and prolong life without hope or meaning. Technocrats (no matter how sincere and competent) do not solve human dilemmas.
