Served as assistant professor, associate professor, professor, and 1999 Chairman of the Coe College Physics Department 1964-1979; serving also terms as Chairman of the standing committees on Computer, Library, and Teacher Education; Chairman of the KCOE-FM Broadcast Board of Directors; member of the 1969 Coe Summer Study Committee. Served as Vice Chairman and Chairman of a Christian Education Committee and as leader of an adult study group in local churches. Served as Chairman of the County Chapter of the Iowa Democratic Conference and on the State Executive Committee of the IDC during its active years. Attended numerous county, district, and state conventions of the Democratic Party of Iowa serving therein on Platform Committee, Rules Committees, as Chief Teller, as Parliamentarian, and also as Secretary to: the State Party Reform Committee, Constitution Revision Committees, Convention Rules Committees, Iowa Democratic Party State Central Committee, and to state-level committees developing new procedures for prioritizing the Party Platform. Served as Vice-Chairman of the Technical Advisory Committee on Transit Study in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Served twelve years as-the Iowa representative on the National Council of the American Association of Physics Teachers after having served as Iowa Section Chairman.
