Domineering people are likely to rationalize that their ways of holding people accountable --- will overall encourage people to behave responsibly, and that in the absence of such ways of holding people accountable -- people will not behave responsibly. It is in domineering people's interest to view other people in ways which indicate that the domineering people's "skills" are essential to the good proper functioning of society. Is there any evidence in support of that way of perceiving the nature of human beings and human societies. Is there any contrary evidence? Self-serving judgments are not likely to be unbiased, free-of-prejudice, not-capricious, and not arbitrary. We need to seek a more likely to be reliable way of dealing with the above issues; a way which will meet the following conditions. 1. The research and conclusions are protected against the biases/prejudices of domineering people and their traditional submissive victims. 2. The research and conclusions will fit coherently into a credible way of understanding how personal and communal integrations and integrities are undermined and how they are facilitated; e.g., as regards open and honest communications, good mental health, learning from mistakes, facilitating cooperation/collaboration, conflict resolution, humane-productivity, humane-creativity, etc. 3. Evidence be gathered by a spectrum of diverse people to protect against the presence of systematic bias in making reflexive observations about human behaviors and reflexive considerations. 4. There be efforts to protect against prejudices which originate in conflicts rooted in various kinds of differences/conflicts: religious, political, economic, cultural, racial, nationalistic, scholarly, genetic, etc. At least such prejudices should be recognized and acknowledged. Failing to do so should call all conclusions into question. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
