Here RELATIONSHIPS are not to be considered primarily in formal terms. RELATIONSHIPS have as much to do with the attitudes and feelings which people have when considering each other; as with formal: declarations, promises, arrangements, contracts, requirements, rules, etc. Personal relationships may be characterized by: alienation, estrangement, misunderstandings, prejudices, ignorance, resentment, contentiousness and conflicts; and/or by: reconciliation, friendships, intimacies, intimate dialogue, hospitality, civility, cooperation and colaboration. RELATIONSHIPS may helpfully be characterized by the extent to which ALL participants within the relationships find fulfillment, meaning, joy, satisfaction, and the freedom to be safely vulnerable in open and honest dialogue --- as participants within the relationships. How well do participants ALL enjoy such benefits of participation within the RELATIONSHIPS? Such characteristics are not the direct result of any formal: declarations, promises, requirements, standards, laws, prescriptions, proscriptions, contracts, arrangements, etc. Beware of domineering people who seek to achieve such benefits through formal coercive procedures.
