There is not enough time for each person to attend to every possible focus of attention. Choices of how to focus attention must be made due to lack of time. 2. Each person is totally ignorant (and will always be totally ignorant) of many possible foci of attention---for lack of time, exposure, experience, sense organs, etc. 3. Due to inheritance and previous experiences each person tends to ignore may possible foci of attention even when they are present. 4. Negative experiences often lead to aversive reactions to possible foci of attention. 5. Foci of attention which lead to embarrassment are often avoided. 6. People avoid/repress information and insights which will expose mistakes, incompetence, dishonesty, corruption, addictions, collusions, etc. 7. People avoid/repress whatever will expose the limitations and misleading aspects of their favored paradigm. 8. People often (but not always) avoid/repress whatever will expose the weaknesses of their parents, teachers, supervisors, bosses, etc. 9. Addictive people and organizations in perversely systematic/chaotic ways combine many of the above patterns in hidden ways to try to "get ahead" and "gain respect". (c) 2005 by Paul A.
