Simple inanimate objects of limited extent can be owned and controlled to some extent. They can be understood, manipulated and controlled in objective ways which are in keeping with their objective natures. Animate creatures including people cannot be owned and controlled just as can inanimate objects of limited extent. Animate creatures including people have wills, desires, perceptions, and responses of their own which are not fulfilled by them being owned and controlled by manipulative people. A manipulative person may try to own and control another person. A manipulative person may try to own and control a relationship between self and another person; or between two persons other than self. Human relationships are not objective things of limited extent. Human relationships extend into the will-full community in ways which are often not known or understood; and so human relationships extend into the community in ways which are beyond human ownership and control. A foolish manipulative person may try to own and control a community; a pattern of human relationships of great extent. The more extensive and will-full is the community which a manipulative person tries to control; the more foolish is the manipulative person, and the more likely such a person is to engender tragic consequences which are not clearly perceived, and which are not clearly understood. We are fools if we join in the foolish manipulative ways of people who try to own and control that which they cannot own or control. Yet, often people do join in such foolish manipulative ways---by trying to own and control such foolish manipulative people. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
