So also, often what we accept is opposite of what we think we are accepting. When we are confused about the essential natures of the realities which confront us---we have no firm ground upon which to decide what to reject and what to accept. When we are collusive addicts and codependent supporters---we confuse truth with falsehood, appearances with realities, and clarity with confusion-- -and have no firm ground upon which to decide what to reject and what to accept. When we are so confused we are likely to take as being absolutely reliable---certain statements, injunctions and commandments---which are not related in any way to any specific human experiences. Such statements are often dishonestly made as if they were generalizations which are ostensibly based upon a wide range of specific human experiences---when they are not so based, and are never justified in terms of a wide range of specific human experiences. When we are confused we often do not want to admit that we are confused, and we compensate for our confusion with arrogant appearances of a false sense of certainty. Such confusion, compensation, arrogance and dishonest appearances do not help us to recover from our confusion. Instead they make it more difficult for us to find a reliable ground upon which to make decisions regarding what we can (with continuing integrity) reject, and what we can (with continuing integrity) accept. If we are so confused that we reject true love (because true love threatens our dishonest sense of security) we cannot make wise decisions about what to accept and what to reject. If we are so confused that we accept addicts and their codependent supporters as God's true prophets (because they wear respectable masks and vestments) we cannot make wise decisions about what to accept and what to reject. If we reject the promptings of the Holy Spirit to be true to ourselves and each other---we cannot accept God's forgiveness for our past mistakes, confusion and alienative deeds; and in the nature of the cosmos we cannot be forced to accept God's forgiveness for our past mistakes, confusion and alienative deeds. Often what we reject---is opposite of what we think we are rejecting. So also, often what we accept---is opposite of what we think we are accepting.
