Legalists do not trust people to seek integrity, honesty, holy relationships and health apart from coercion and threats-- -because they themselves do not seek integrity, honesty, holy relationships and health apart from coercion and threats. They believe that others are motivated as they are, and so they do not trust others, because they know that they themselves are not trustworthy. Holy people who enjoy holy intimate relationships are whole people who enjoy integrity, honesty, whole relationship and health---apart from coercive threats. Holy people are not striving to conform to any collection of prescriptions, formulas, prohibitions or taboos. They do not live under threats of excommunications and disintegrative consequences in the case of failures to conform. Holy people are not dominated by legalists who do not trust others---because they know legalists cannot trust themselves to be true to self and others. Holy people transcend the manipulative paradigms of legalists. Holy people are not preoccupied with laws, and leave the legalists free to figure out how they (the holy people) have let go of legalistic shackles and so are free of them while being true to the insights to which integrative laws points. Holy people listen to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit calling them to seek honesty, integrity, wholeness and health within gentle relationships--- wherein they are free of coercion and threats of excommunications which lead to personal and communal disintegration. Legalists fear the promptings of the still small voice of the Holy Spirit---for it leads people to abandon the collusive games of mutual self deception to which the legalists cling, and with which they shackle themselves and each other within their legalistic prisons of conformity.
