Creatures which do not engage in sexual reproduction undergo major changes through cell divisions by which one creature splits and become two nearly identical creatures. Creatures which do engage in sexual reproduction engage in sexual relationships which play significant roles in their life patterns; and thereby into a new and somewhat different creature comes into existence through cell divisions, transformation metamorphosis, hatching, and/or birth. Metamorphosis may occur in ways which are not obvious to the objective observer who is compulsively preoccupied with always being (or appearing to be) objective and in control. Yet, through metamorphosis a compulsively objective creature may cease to be compulsively objective and preoccupied with being in control at all times, in all places, and in all circumstances. Creatures who are compulsively preoccupied with always being in control naturally fear the specter of metamorphosis, because the creature which undergoes metamorphosis is not and cannot be in conscious control of its own metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is a process which is driven and guided by considerations which transcend the consciousness of the creature which undergoes metamorphosis---because of genetic codes for the process and/or because of environmental circumstances embedded in the objective, reflexive, communal, and cultural environment which triggers the metamorphosis. People who seek to avoid metamorphosis and to continue being as they are (apparently in control of themselves and others) are bound to undergo metamorphosis because of their efforts to control their appearances. When they cannot really be as they try to appear to be---they concentrate their attention upon appearances rather than upon reality; and so engage in collusive games of mutual self deception which transform them in ways which they cannot control, because they have lost touch with reality. Their metamorphosis is driven by their dishonesty which leads them into degenerate confusion and disintegration. They cannot be true to themselves or to each other, and so cannot be people of integrity. They disintegrate. People who seek personal and communal integrity --- willingly undergo honest metamorphoses and continue to be persons of integrity within integrative communities. There people enjoy being with and cooperating with each other in open and honest intimate relationships. There people enjoy each other because they give to each other the gift of the freedom to be true to themselves and to each other as they grow through honest transformations. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
