They often fail to own as their own their own emotional difficulties---and project their own difficulties upon other people. They blame, shame and guilt other people; and try to use punishments as manipulative means by which to promote conformity--- because they regard people pretty much as they regard objects; things to be pushed around. They try to manipulate human relationships in the manner in which engineers manipulate objects; and they do not understand ---the resentment, anger, alienation and violence which they engender. It is important to recognize, name, describe and talk about instances of human behavior which fit the above pattern. Reciprocal attempts at human manipulation will only escalate the resentments, anger, alienation and violence. We need to recognize the roots of the dysfunctional behavior and take steps to insure that the next generation of babies, infants, and children have emotionally more mature homes and settings in which the grow up with more functionally healthy patterns of coping. We need to place greater emphasis upon the emotional well- being of our babies, infants and children than upon the manipulation of objects, money, possessions, manufactured goods, businesses, and political manipulations.
