We need to take note of the extent to which, and the ways in which, each disintegrative paradigm tends to promote suspicion. Perfectionists tend to encourage people to look for defects, flaws, and mistakes; and to suspect that all other people are trying to hide their defects, flaws, and mistakes. Manipulators who seek to be in control encourage people to hide their rebellion, nonconformity, creativity, and real feelings; and to encourage people to suspect that such deceptive behaviors are being engaged in. Legalists tend to encourage perfectionism with regard to conformity to systems of rules, regulations, prohibitions, and requirements; and so encourage suspicion of failure to achieve perfection in such conformity. Objectivists who are compulsively preoccupied with objectivity regard non-objective behavior with suspicion; and alienate themselves from people who engage in openly reflexive behavior with no apologies made for doing so. Militarists tend to promote suspicion of whatever group has been defined to be the enemy; and suspicion of sympathizers with the enemy. The stakes are too high in a highly charged militaristic arms race for anybody to be beyond suspicion. The resultant alienation and all the attendant risks are viewed by militarists as confirmation of how reasonable their paradigm is. Each disintegrative paradigm tends to promote/encourage suspicion, on the one hand, with suspicion's associated alienation and evil behaviors; or trust, on the other hand, with trust's associated good behaviors. We need to take note of the extent to which, and the ways in which, each disintegrative paradigm tends to promote suspicion. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
