We may point to some of the essential insight of Zen Buddhists by observing that: Contentment is not achieved through the use of, or the avoidance of the use of, any technique or resource. In the previous statement the word "contentment" may just as well be replaced by any of the following words; see if it is not so! peace serenity satisfaction meaning salvation rest integrity wholeness health coherence re-birth redemption Similarly with each of the following statements as they are, and with above words used as the possible replacements of the word "content" in appropriately recast ways of pointing to the central truth of real living. Such replacements can generate over 55 additional statements! We are CONTENT when we finally decide to accept who and what we are, and to be CONTENT, without first achieving a fix by which we and/or others hope we will be made CONTENT. We are CONTENTed when we finally decide to accept the gift of CONTENTment as freely given and freely accepted outside the bounds of each and every manipulative: system, arrangement, rule, paradigm, requirement, technology, addiction, collusion, etc. The way to CONTENTment cannot be sold, bought, contained, restrained, repressed, or hidden; for it is always free, open, active and public. Those who are truly CONTENTed cannot be controlled or imprisoned through the threat of or actual manipulation through: violence, punishment, dishonesty, fragmentation, analysis, coercion, law, or rewards. Those who are not CONTENTed are often embarrassed by and threatened by the visions of those who are truly CONTENTed, for the CONTENTed people's way of thinking, feeling and living threatens to expose the truth about the dishonesty and manipulative technologies of those who have not accepted the gift of CONTENTment on its own terms.
