Such people are often idealists who are not realists. They often try to help people more than they can. They are overly generous of themselves and their resources in unhealthy ways. They seek to achieve salvation through generosity which they cannot afford and which is unhealthy. The strain of trying to maintain the appearance of being able to do all that they commit themselves to, is a big burden to such people. It is difficult to appear able to do what one cannot do; and this deception is a strain on top of the drain of energy to try to keep up with commitments made. Such a strain can operate within a person with no actual observers to be impressed. A person's own internal "parent" within can play the role of observer to be impressed. Self-respect may demand carrying through on commitments made to self to do more than is possible to do; and to maintain the appearance that the impossible was possible. Such dishonesty often lead to disease and disintegration. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
