Collusions may gain control of the machinery of legalism and pass formal laws which inhibit honesty. It is more common for collusions to operate in more subtle ways and effectively inhibit open and honest descriptions of taboo experiences which embarrass the dominant members of the community. As they sincerely seek to play their assigned dominant roles they seek to control experiences which embarrass them; and this logically entails control of the behaviors of others who embarrass them. Open and honest descriptions of the experiences which embarrass the dominant members of a community are descriptions which are likely to embarrass the dominant members of the community. In a collusive community such dominant members are likely to seek to be in control, in the manner of addicts and codependents. The dominant members of the community are thus likely to behave in ways which will inhibit embarrassing communications. Freedoms of assembly, speech, press and petition are thus likely to be inhibited in the name of law and order, for taboo descriptions are disorderly. Law and order lead to disintegration when they entail the inhibition of open and honest descriptions of significant human experiences. When significant human experiences cannot be openly and honestly described, the community has lost the ability to be in dialogue regarding those experiences; and is thus unable to deal with them wisely. Taboo experiences are significant human experiences by virtue of the fact that they are taboo and lead to feelings of guilt, regret, and compulsive reconsideration. The processes which lead to such experiences being taboo, are disintegrative processes to the extent that they inhibit open and honest discussion of the experiences. The essence of taboos is to make certain behaviors forbidden in such an extreme way as to make the violation of the prohibition non-discussible. The essence of a taboo is not the recognition of the disintegrative nature of the forbidden behavior, or the prohibition of the disintegrative behavior. Taboos are characterized by the inhibition of discussion of the forbidden behavior. It is the inhibition of the discussion of honest forbidden communications which is most disintegrative.
