     It   is   difficult   to  cope  wisely   with   taboo
predicaments.

     A taboo predicament is one with which a community can
not cope openly and honestly in wise conversations.

     A  taboo  predicament is one which according  to  the
rules  of  communal games is forbidden,  and  about  which
there  are  many  communal experiences of  guilt,   shame,
regret, embarrassment, etc.

     Communities   do   not  have  an  approved   adequate
vocabulary   with  which  to  discuss  taboo  predicaments
wisely.

     Since  taboo predicaments are taboo,  the words  with
which  to describe such predicaments are also taboo.   The
use   of   appropriate   words   engenders   feelings   of
embarrassment, guilt, shame and regret.

     A taboo predicament is not a technical problem.

     Technical  problems  are  ones for  which  there  are
technical solutions;  i.e, accepted procedures by which to
deal with an situation to achieve a clearly stated goal.

     Taboo  predicaments  are situations which  cannot  be
described   accurately   because  there  is  no   adequate
vocabulary  with which to describe the  differences  which
are  essential  to a clear description.  The  words  which
might point to such differences are taboo and/or unknown.

     The taboos, guilts,  shame and regrets which surround
taboo predicaments inhibit wise behavior which might  lead
the  way out of the taboo predicaments.  Wise leaders  who
might lead the way out of the predicament are  stigmatized
as  behaving in taboo ways which embarrass leading members
of the community.

     So long as people who carefully and honestly describe
the  dynamics  of  taboo predicaments are people  who  are
rejected,   so long will a community lack the vision  with
which to clearly see the way out of taboo predicaments.

     The  creative  vision  necessary  to  get  out  of  a
predicament  depends upon a common communal language  with
which to point to the elements and relationships which are
central to the predicament.  Communities which are trapped
in  taboo  predicaments are trapped without  a  vocabulary
with which to accurately describe their own situation.

     The description of a taboo predicament is a reflexive
act;   it is not objective behavior.  The community  which
regards  objective  behavior  with  favor  and  subjective
behavior  with  disfavor  is likely to become  trapped  in
taboo  predicaments.  Scientists regard objective behavior
with   favor  and  subjective  behavior   with   disfavor.
Scientists   are  likely  to  become  trapped   in   taboo
predicaments.

     Scientists   who   favor  objective   behavior   over
subjective behavior are unlikely to use a vocabulary which
is  adequate  to  articulating  accurate  descriptions  of
important subjective relationships.

     Most     predicaments    pertain    to     subjective
relationships.  Wise coping with predicaments depends upon
accurate  communications,   conversations,  and  listening
which entail the use of adequate subjective  vocabularies.
Most highly respected scientific training does not prepare
people  for  such  wise coping.   In  fact,   most  highly
