Additions, codependence and collusions are systemic aspects of a community. Systemic supports for addictive-codependent behavior include: encouragement of over-responsible and paternalistic parenting, failures to define the mature limits of parental responsibility, failures to define the mature extent of children's responsibilities, encouragement of legalistic/moralistic approaches to life, selling means to personal salvation for a price, rejecting people because they are honest while accepting others who differ primarily in being dishonest; respecting attempts to control other people's behavior, thoughts and expressions; respecting appearances which are not authentic, failures to discuss matters of great concern and interest, discussing matters only superficially and abstractly---but never existentially in openly and honest personal ways, etc. The obvious forms of addiction and codependence are extreme cases of systematically encouraged but less obvious forms of addiction and codependence. The obvious tip of the iceberg is held up by the much larger but less obvious body of the systemic iceberg. Chopping off the tip will not eliminate the iceberg or significantly reduce how much sticks above the surface of the water. To eliminate the iceberg the whole body of the iceberg must be melted with warm love, charity, forgiveness, reconciliation, conversation, acceptance, etc. which understand the dynamics of personal and systemic communal addiction, codependence and collusive games of self deception. Systemic healing must progress in parallel with personal healing for either to progress. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
