Their guilt does not permit them to reflect wisely upon their own experiences and personal perceptions. If objectivity is required and reflexivity is taboo, personal integrity is impossible. It is important to learn how it is that many intelligent people have learned to feel guilty about their reflexive considerations, attention, experiences, knowledge, reasoning, concepts, etc. For those who are the victims of such guilt, learning how they came to feel guilty is taboo. Their reflexive guilt is itself a violation of the taboo against reflexive behavior. To reflect upon the guilt which makes the guilt itself taboo, is a further violation of the taboo which prohibits reflexive feelings and behaviors. Those who feel guilty can not save themselves from their guilt. They need a miracle; that which they can not conceive, which to them appears so impossible that it does not even appear as a thinkable impossibility. It is so unthinkable that it is not even conceived as impossible, it does not enter consciousness. Hopelessness grows through strange feed-back loops which accentuate disintegration. It is especially tragic when the disintegration results from the fulfillment of tragic idealistic values which have become divorced from existential validation. When people are out of touch with their own reflexive considerations they can not test the validity of their values and ideals against their own experience. If intellect and logic dominate to the extent that they repress affect, reasoning processes become alienated from existential evidence and cause many evil relationships ---which are concealed through the use of reflexive taboos which require guilt as the price for engaging in reflexive behavior. In the name of protecting unreasonable logic---taboos require illogical behavior for unproven reasons. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
