Expressing happiness for another is reflexive behavior and worthy of respect. It is important to be able to make a clear distinction between reflexive behavior which does not merit respect, and reflexive behavior which does merit respect; else all reflexive behavior is likely to be regarded with equal suspicion or respect. The differences do make a difference, whether we recognize the differences or not. In a society which is preoccupied with objectivity to rarely does the society demonstrate respect for respectable reflexive behaviors. Such a society views with suspicion all reflexive behaviors as if they were all like the kinds of reflexive behaviors which do not merit respect. Such a society does not know how to tell the difference between respectable reflexive behavior and un- respectable reflexive behavior. It can not be in harmony with a balanced respect for the kinds of reflexive behavior which are essential to wise action through prudent judgment. In a society which is preoccupied with subjectivity too rarely does the society demonstrate respect for respectful objective behavior. Such a society views with suspicion all objective behavior as it were all like the kinds of objective behavior which occasion disintegration and alienation. Such a society does not know how to tell the difference between respectable objective behavior and un-respectable objective behavior.
