It is logically impossible to learn from your own mistakes if you are ultimately committed to always being objective in all circumstances. To be objective is to divorce yourself from a situation and view it in a detached way without emotional involvement in what the situation implies for one's own self welfare. Situations in which one's own self welfare are essentially involved can not be views with total objectivity. It is possible to respond to situations which entail profound implications for one's own welfare according to a program which is systematic, unemotional, and analytic; as when an airplane pilot deals with a situation in which in all probability the airplane is going to crash and all the pilot can do is assess the situation as intelligently and dispassionately as possible to take action to minimize the destruction to all involved. Such behavior is not entirely objective for the pilot is essentially involved and can not extricate himself or herself from the situation so as to view it "objectively" without self interest in the outcome. Wisdom and objectivity are not essentially the same. People who are compulsively objective are not wise nor compassionate. They can not learn from their own mistakes because they are not free to be openly reflective about themselves and how they interact/relate to their environment; their attention is upon their environment, not upon how they relate to their environment, they are out of the picture by the rules of objectivity and its compulsive taboos.
