Real people need encouragement, or they cease to live real lives. The educational process ostensibly is designed to help students grow in ways appropriately to their own futures. If they are to be real students who learn to live real and meaningful lives, they need to have encouragement. Yet educational institutions tend to emphasize rules, regulations, negative criticisms, punishments, and other restrictions; rather than encouragement. It is not surprising then that many students lose courage and fail in the fail-punitive environment. An origin of the problem is in technocrats tendency to focus upon criteria for judgment, rather than upon human dialogue. When the criteria for judgment are more highly valued than dialogue is valued---then sin in the sense of estrangement is the natural consequence. Nature passes judgment upon the survival value of the system of values which undervalues dialogue, and overvalues judgmental criteria. Technocrats tend to become isolated and retain power only through technical fascism where technocracy plays the role of nation and race in Hitler's Germany. Technocrats pass judgment upon the mental/emotional inclinations of non-technocrats and find them defective. Such findings are not encouraging to the real people who are the victims of the technocrats. This encourages the technocrats to believe that their point of view is universally true---there being no effective competition for it. Solutions to human problems which involve the reduction of communication are pseudo-solutions. They mask the problems without resolving them. They are like paint over a thick layer of rust, or white wash on a decaying corpse. Sticking one's head in the sands of time hardly solves long-range problems. There is little to give one courage in ignorance of other peoples' perceptions, assumptions, feelings, values, attitudes, desires, etc. Encouragement is not possible in the absence of dedications to openness. Students of all ages need encouragement. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
