Because the technocrat values techniques of manipulation exclusively---they are chosen as priority means so regularly that they dominate the ends which they ostensibly serve. In the end, the technocrat chooses ends which can be accomplished only by the valued means at hand. The ends are chosen to justify the means. The means are chosen first. Then the technocrat seeks ends suitable to and capable of justifying those chosen means. The technocrat perceives love as very risky, and the worship of techniques as safe---because of the very predictable results of that worship. Because love is unpredictable, it is not to be trusted. Because technology has predictable human consequences---it is to be trusted, even though those human consequences are inhumane. The world view of the technocrat is threatened by love. Love reveals the inconsistencies in the technocratic world view. The technocrat values consistency. Love thus exposes the lack of integrity in the technocrat's values and value system. Such a judgment is hard to accept when acceptance is based upon fulfilling expectations---as is the case for the technocrat. Thus the technocrat, in defense of the technocratic society, seeks to undermine they way of love. This is done by seeking to block communication, because love is recognized as essentially the power of opening channels of communication. Thus the technocrat, in the name of love, seeks to regulate communication to promote human welfare. The confusion engendered thereby effectively blocks communication among and between the self and others. Seeking to regulate communication to promote human welfare---is a divisive technique which is used by technocrats to oppose the openness promoted by love. Those who love see the divisive technique for what it is. They willingly share their lives in sacrificial service to help transcend such excommunicative techniques. They live lives of non-manipulative service and find fulfillment in many years of working to promote openness of people to each other's real self. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
