It takes time, possibly never actually occurs for many people. It means stripping away the facade that is worn in front of others, looking at one's own naked soul, seeing the soul for what it really is; the qualities, the quantities, the lacks. It takes a person already strong to be able to look that deeply into the soul. It is a scary process. After living with the cloak of "social niceties" for so long, it is hard to remove. It isn't only the "niceties" that cover the real self. Accepting faults, we are taught, is not good; hide them under a rug, and never look at them again. It is totally against the technocratic society to accept totally, with no strings, or legally binding contracts, attached. It seems there must always be a clause somewhere. The self takes that clause somewhere. The self takes that clause and interpolates it so fully that it becomes second nature. And extrapolates to take care of any loopholes that might have existed in others. The self, the soul, the spark of life, the Divine Gift; hiding from one's self is easy to do. It takes initiative to be able to face the self without running away after the first glimpse. Of course it hurts. At first. Doing something for the first time is never easy. But then, one should take another look. A little bit longer this time. Get used to the idea that somewhere, amidst the muck, mire, and filth, there is such a beautiful sight to behold. Some call this God. Some, Love. A few others, the Soul. Many don't even know of the existence of the inner self. Once the shroud is removed the self will truly be unhampered, and free. It is unlikely that one will be able to remove it all at once. It must be done bit by bit, day by day. Watching a rose open, petal by petal is not as lovely a sight as seeing a soul open up to the world. Personal meeting with self; a taking apart of the whole, remolding, and reshaping. Once started, it continues in a forever growing, changing, increasing awareness. There won't be an end in sight because as the self becomes more aware, the less aware one realizes the self has been. In personal meeting with self, there is only one constant; that of change. (Written by a new friend) (c) 2003 by Paul A.
