Too infrequently are they aware of the extent to which the nature of reality which they discover---is built into the state of consciousness within which they choose to approach reality. The perceived nature of reality is dependent upon those aspects of it which the self chooses to apprehend. Some of Galileo's contemporaries tried to avoid the perception of some objective realities --- because the realities were counter to the non-objective realities which they considered most real. Some modern scientists are in danger---because they try to avoid the perception of non-objective reality which do not want to submit to analysis by human rationality. Whoever makes the value judgment that analysis is a transcendent good --- will naturally tend to regard as most ultimate an understanding of reality which reduces reality to the fewest possible number of elements and laws of process. Whoever makes the value judgment that a participative approach to life is a good --- may tend to regard as most ultimate an understanding of reality which is most inclusive and integrative in character. Whoever seeks certain knowledge as to which of these or other perceptions of reality is ultimate---will become frustrated. Whoever has the emotional security which is the foundation for the freedom to accept the essential uncertainties of real life---will receive mutual understandings of human participation in reality. There are people who expect human fulfillment to be dependent upon a clever understanding and manipulation of reality. Technocrats in their state of consciousness find it hard to say no to any scientific research proposal--- because it might uncover the key to human survival and fulfillment through facilitating greater objective understanding and manipulation. There are authentic people who hope for human fulfillment through dialogue and facilitating intimate relationships. To be helpful---science educators need to develop a mutual understandings with persons characterized by each of these states or consciousness. (c) 1999 by Paul A.
