The  following  essay  was written soon after reading  the
article "Evil acts,  evildoers" by Susan Neiman in the May
20,   2008  issue of Christian Century.   Susan Neiman  is
director of the Einstein Forum in Potsdam,  Germany.   Her
books  include  Evil  in Modern Thought:   An  Alternative
History of Philosophy.    The  article mentioned above was
excerpted  from  Moral  Clarity:  A   Guide  for  Grown-Up
Idealists,   published by Harcourt just before  the  above
article was published.
