For example a steel rod must be between 0.999 inches and 1.001 inches in diameter and between 9.999 and 10.001 inches long if the tolerance standard is 0.001 inches in the diameter and the length. The correct diameter may be 1.000 inches and the correct length may be 10.000 inches; plus-or-minus 0.001 inches. It is futile to focus upon getting it to exactly the correct length and diameter; i.e., a waste of time. So also in considering standards for human conduct regarding: honesty, civility, generosity, cooperation, hospitality, mutuality, sympathy, empathy, listening, gentleness, patience, etc. There is a challenge in trying to carry the kinds of tolerance standards which work in objective engineering work --- over into the realm of reflexive relationships. Yet it is futile to focus upon getting requiring absolute conformity to any articulation of standards for human conduct as regards virtues and/or vices. To get along with each other in healthy, creative and cooperative ways --- we must demonstrate some common sense tolerance standards relative to what we may consider to be the ideal demonstrations of: honesty, civility, generosity, cooperation, hospitality, mutuality, sympathy, empathy, listening, gentleness, patience, etc. We need to ask what each of us can do to facilitate and encourage: 1. Resolutions of conflicts between ideals and values. 2. Resolution of conflicts between principles and goals. 3. Reconciliation between victims & perpetrators of hurt 4. Committments to demonstrating distributive justice. 5. Committments to building sanctuaries for all to use. 6. Committments to maintain sanctuaries for all to use. 7. Committments to maintain community-wide-health. 8. Committments to work for personal/communal integrity. 9. Letting-Go of alienative technocracies/technocrats. 10. Letting-Go of alienative/tragic simplistic-idealism. 11. Letting-Go of beliefs that we can be Superior-People. 12. Letting-Go of believing we can know who is Good/Evil. 13. Letting-Go of believing we can perfect anybody alive. 14. Letting-Go of believing we can be invulnerable-alive. 15. Letting-Go of believing we can avoid-all-risks-alive.
