To loyal supporters of The-Domination-System with its Fallen-Powers-That-Be and Collusive-Games-Of-Mutual-Self- Deception (whether military or not) "discipline" means working to achieve "Preassigned-Goals" through the use of manipulative: tools, weapons, coercion, force, violence, etc; even at great cost to labeled-enemies who are said to be evil in many instances. Increasing alienation, self- righteousness, arrogance, misunderstadings, ignorance, confusion, prejudices, resentment, anger, rage, etc. --- is taken for granted and the colateral costs are not counted in any cost-benefit analysis of the efforts engaged in. To educational leaders in an instructional setting "discipline" means abiding by the rules and traditions of scholarly efforts; e.g., academic-honesty, giving credit where credit is due, the proper use of footnotes, proper spelling and grammar, neatness, tidyness, etc. To scientific researchers engaged in laboratory work "discipline" means tenacity in framing new questions, gathering new data, quantitative analysis of numberical data, comparing results with predictions, writing reports, getting reports published, visiting with other researchers around the world, etc. To musicians in an orchestra "discipline" means constant personal and communal practice to perfect performance and interpretation skills, empathizing with the message of the composer, cooperating with the conductor and other musicians to interpret the intent of the composer, etc. To rational people "discipline" means in keeping with in conformity to structured/logical patterns of thinking; in contrast to highly spontaneous, emotional and affectionate intimacies. Rational processes are governed by rules, not by emotions. Domineering people prefer to work with (or on) "disiciplined" people who can be controled through disciplines which domineering people can control and/or dominate as disciplinarians.
