What is an appropriate focus of fear, and what is NOT an appropriate focus of fear --- also depends greatly upon how we view things and relationships. Consider the following list of possible foci-of-fear which are alternately helpful-foci-of-fear and disintegrative-foci-of-fear. Note that they way in which "things" are viewed can make a very important difference! Love viewed as a sign of weakness. War viewed as a disintegrative activity. Superiority over-others viewed as being-good. Alienation from others viewed as being-evil. Achieving invulnerability viewed as being-good. Dis-ease in others' presence viewed as being-evil. Vulnerability to others viewed as being-evil. Honest intimacy viewed as being-good. Coerced-conformity viewed as being-good. Relaxed-authenticity seen as worthy of reverence. Holding-on-to-absolute-truths viewed as being-good. Letting-go-of-arrogance viewed as being-good. Excommunications viewed as tools for being-good. Reverence toward the transcendent viewed as good. Conformity viewed as the essence of all virtues. Honesty with others viewed as being-good. Cooperating with others viewed as being-weak. Cooperation with others viewed as being-good. Control over others viewed as being-good. Control over others viewed as alienative/strange. Compromising principles seen as being-evil. Integration of principles seen as being-good.
