Who must be fought? Whom can we safely cooperate with? Whom must we avoid? Whom must we accept? Whom must we reject? People often define themselves in terms of which other people they are fearful of & fighting against; thus giving-to-their enemies much power over how the givers of such power define themselves. Their focus is upon conflict, NOT cooperation. Healthy people define themselves in terms of how they cooperate with different kinds of people; thus sharing with each other power over how they promote and facilitate personal and communal integrities appropriate to them all, and how they can be whole and healthy. Their focus is upon COOPERATION, NOT conflict. Both COOPERATION and conflict can have diverse foci. COOPERATION often focuses upon a wide spectrum of considerations. Conflict often focuses upon a narrow one or few issues; perhaps focusing on "signs" of who MAY be included and who MUST be excluded. Conflicted communities disintegrate. COOPERATIVE communities integrate. Integrative communities are aware of and expand their sense of the essential foundations for both personal and communal integrities; because they are focused upon COOPERATION. Disintegrative communities repress and contract their sense of the essential foundations for both personal and communal integrities; because they are focused upon conflicts. It helps to be aware of how we and others focus the attention of members of our various communities --- and what are the natural-fruits of such foci of attention. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
