Different people answer this questions in different ways: 1. From "Original sin" which came into being when Eve and Adam were disobedient by literally eating fruit from the literally forbidden tree in a literal Garden of Eden; causing separation between themselves and God, and so causing separation between their literal descendants and God. All humans need to be saved/liberated from that state of separation which was caused by Eve and Adam, humans cannot save/liberate themselves. 2. From the condition of alienation of ourselves from our true selves, from each other true self, and from the Transcendent/Integrative/Integrated Ground of Being Truly Healthy. Real-humans and real-human-communities rarely fulfill all their potentials for open and honest communications, community, civility, integration and health. We need help in transcending our own and each other's unavoidable imperfections. 3. From rebellious people who refuse to do what they know fully well that they should do. Some people are in rebellion from God who is perfect, the source of perfect: laws, regulations, prescriptions and proscriptions. We need to be saved from such rebellious people and all of there misdeeds, attitudes, and arrogant beliefs that they can do what they want to do without interference from anybody, human or divine. 4. From unfortunate mis-fortunes in natural processes --- which bring gentle rains and volcanic eruptions, warm breezes and hurricanes, firm foundations and earthquakes, cool breezes and freezing rains, genetically healthy people and genetically un-healthy people, etc. 5. From human tragedies rooted in naive, uninformed and prejudiced idealism --- idealism which is not capable of leading humans into cooperatively creative work within civil communities of civil people. 6. From supporters of "The Domination System" which concentrates powers and benefits into the hands of a few servants of "The Domination System" --- at the expense of the many victims who for many reasons lack the power to understand, subvert and/or transcend "The Domination System" and all of its perverse technologies of control. 7. From addictive, codependent, and collusive relationships within which people cannot fulfill their God-given unique potentials and creative possibilities. 8. From ignorance, prejudice, dishonesty, deception and dis-eases which undermine the possibilities of mutual understanding, reconciliation and cooperative work. 9. From religious leaders who have perverted the insight and work of those who long ago founded their religious traditions, from perversions which are pointed to in the text above. 10. From idolaters who focus much too exclusively upon just one truth/priority (or just a very few truths and/or priorities); refusing to acknowledge any of the complementary truths/priorities which are pointed to in paradoxical ways by integrative people and communities through their creative and cooperative ways. 11. From the misinterpretations of ancient stories, myths and cosmologies --- which are not literally true within the context of modern scientific understandings of natural physical objects and processes. 12. From preoccupations with individual isolated human beings --- preoccupations which prevent us from seeing the importance of the essential foundations for both personal and communal integrities --- which are sustainable in real daily living that is civil, integrative, robust, and enduring.
