Perhaps it is because: 1. In private their followers might recognize the motivations of domineering religious leaders --- related to concentrating power, being in control, fearing vulnerability, fearing uncertainty, etc. 2. If any people do not affirm in practice that domineering religious leaders have a right/duty to know about each suspected follower's: desires, beliefs, doubts, dreams, hopes, aspirations, fears, resentments, failures, etc. --- loyalty is thereby called into question. 3. Domineering religious leaders make a practice of exercising dominion, either in large gatherings where all the necessary formal arrangements can be made in advance; or in small groups where their own personal presence is adequate to maintain dominance. 4. People forget Jesus' saying that wherever two or three are gathered together in his name, in his spirit, with Holy Spirit --- He would be present with them. This saying is not necessarily automatically relevant to larger groups. There are reasonable grounds for thinking that the saying is NOT automatically relevant to larger groups. 5. Domineering religious leaders are bound by the rules of their collusive games of mutual self deception to distrust Holy Spirit --- because Holy Spirit is NOT bound by the rules of their collusive games of mutual self deception. 6. When only two or three are gathered together in an open, honest, integrative relationship --- it is impossible for a large majority to dominate a minority of less than 33 of those present. In large groups such domination is easily possible and often does happen. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
