As often as not the accusations are as much tacit, as explicit. As often as not there are tacit "agreements" that certain kinds of evidence are "irrelevant". The people who make the tacit accusations seek to exclude from consideration those kinds of evidence which would help bystanders to understand the senses in which the personal relationships have been motivated by efforts on the part of the participants to promote both personal and communal integrity. The people who make the accusations usually are seeking to over- simplify the nature of personal relationships in order to make it appear that the persons accused are guilty of having violated important commandments, rules, law, regulations, prohibitions, prescriptions, etc. Over- simplification usually entails limiting consideration to just one or a few of the following kinds of evidence: 1. Gossip which has been going around. 2. Confessions of embarrassment by bystanders. 3. People lodging protests on behalf of "others". 4. Vague suggestions of "immorality". 5. Vague suggestions of "not being professional". 6. Claims of inadequate defense against the above. 7. Suggestions of guilt until innocence is proved. 8. Prejudiced perceptions offered as being reliable. 9. Misinterpretations of meanings of what was seen. 10. Unfair interpretations of meanings of actions. 11. Informal excommunications which have occurred. 12. Physical evidence. 13. Psychological evidence. 14. Spiritual evidence. 15. Written evidence. 16. Oral evidence. 17. Pictorial evidence. 18. Second-hand reports. 19. Circumstantial evidence. 20. Publications of constitutions and bylaws. 21. Publications of laws and legislation. 22. Publications of formal motions made and passed. 23. Publications of administrative rules/regulations. 24. Written and oral contracts properly attested. 25. Evidence of private communications and actions. When people insist upon limiting the kind of evidence to just one kind or a few of the above kinds --- beware! Such people may be trying to exclude from consideration all evidence which might cast a new light upon the meaning of the kinds of evidence which they seek to focus all attention upon. Their efforts may be unfair, confusing, dishonest and/or prejudicial. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
