Often we think that our worst enemies come in the forms of: 1. People who are "different"; e.g., as to color, tribe, religion, training, education, attitudes, interests, life-style, beliefs, rituals, traditions, language, etc. 2. Ideas, ideals, values or principles which threaten our collusive games of mutual self deception. 3. Ambiguity, uncertainty or doubt in regards to anything which seems to be important. 4. Realities, imperfections and flaws which stand between us and our fulfillment of our idealism. 5. Our limitations and lack of resources which stand between us and our fulfillment of our idealism. Too rarely are we willing to recognize that our worst enemies often come in the forms of our: 1. Games of mutual self deception. 2. Tolerance of dishonesty, deception, coercion, violence, exclusivity, excommunications, condemnations, shunnings, etc. 3. Preoccupations with issues of control. 4. Preoccupations with commandments, disciplines, prohibitions, proscriptions, prescriptions, punishments, threats and attacks. 5. Extremism, imbalance, and fanaticism. If we are confused about the forms of our worst enemies---we are unlikely to recognize them and respond to our worst enemies in ways which will enable us to transcend them and the ways in which they lead us toward personal and communal disintegration.
