The Roman Catholic Church held that descriptions must conform to the Church's theory of the nature of the objective universe, rather than the Church's theory of the nature of the objective universe having to conform to verifiable open and honest descriptions of people's personal experiences of the objective universe. The repression of open and honest descriptions of personal experiences is disintegrative of personal and communal integrity. The tragic story of the Roman Catholic Church's abuse of power to repress open and honest descriptions of the objective aspects of the solar system is one illustration of the disintegrative consequence of such repression. Many religious leaders have repressed open and honest descriptions of intimate personal relationships which entail sexual aspects, or boarder upon entailing sexual aspects. All too often being true to self and others about sexual experiences has been taboo---in the interests of promoting conformity to ill defined standards of proper experiences, perceptions, articulations, beliefs and theories. The repression of open and honest descriptions is characteristic of addictive people who are preoccupied with issues of control and conformity---but who are indifferent to the prerequisites for personal and communal integrity. For them appearances are more important than reality; conformity is more important than honesty, obedience is more important than mutual dialogue; and law is more important than faith, hope or love. They abide in the law---without faith, hope or love; and believe that thereby they achieve salvation on the basis of their own merit. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
