The wise person is mature in most of the various kinds of ways in which one may be mature. The wise person is not the person who has specialized in an exclusive and narrow way, in regards to growing to maturity. Some people believe it is good to be exclusive and to avoid experiences which might lead them to certain kinds of maturity---they do not become wise so long as they believe in such exclusivity. Growing to maturity in one way does not necessarily mean that one is growing to maturity in the other complimentary ways. The complimentary ways of growing to maturity can in many instances be independent, perpendicular and/or orthogonal to each other. Growth along one way need not imply growth along the other ways. Intellectual, scholarly, physical and business maturity do not necessarily imply affective, emotional, sexual or spiritual maturity. They are different kinds of maturity. People who are mature in one of the above kinds may not even be able to recognize maturity or immaturity in one of the other kinds of ways. On the other hand, sexual maturity most likely will imply affective maturity; but affective maturity may not always imply sexual maturity. Sexually mature people are likely to recognize affective maturity or immaturity; but the reverse is less likely to be the case. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
