    Many people have acquired a sense of responsibility to
feel guilt, shame, and worthless---perhaps as a version of
the  doctrine  of original sin.   Many of  them have  been
encouraged by addictive leaders to acquire such a sense of
responsibility---because   then   they   are   easier   to
manipulate and control to  the  advantage of the addictive
manipulators.   Such people find it  hard to recover their
dignity, integrity and sense of personal worth;  for to do
so they must fail  to fulfill their deeply felt  sense  of
responsibility to feel guilt, shame, and worthless. Such a
betrayal  of their responsibility  would  undermine  their
self  esteem  and  make them  feel  guilty,   shame,   and
worthless.   They are caught in a double bind.  To recover
their   health   they   must   betray   their   sense   of
responsibility;   yet if they fulfill their responsibility
