A systemic disease cannot be cured by means of treatment of the individuals within a community if they are considered one at a time apart from each other. The systemic nature of the disease must be dealt with openly and honestly to transcend it. The ways in which a systemic disease undermines the coping ability of a community as a whole must be openly and honestly recognized, named, talked about, and carefully described---for only then is is likely that the threat to personal and communal integrity will be dealt with adequately. A systemic disease is not the consequence of individual behaviors considered in isolation of each other so that blame can be assigned to a small number of isolated and blame-worthy people. A systemic disease is the consequence of cooperative community behaviors which have threatened the personal and communal integrity of all members of the community. A systemic disease is the consequence of corporate behavior which systematically threatens both personal and communal integrity. The sum effect cannot be understood in terms of the disintegrative parts of the whole. The systemic disease can be understood only in the light of examples of true personal and communal integrity within the disintegrating community. Healing occurs in the face of systemic diseases only when communities as wholes openly and honestly recognize, name, talk about and describe the features and consequences of systemic diseases as contrasted with individualistic diseases which are not symptomatic of systemic diseases---if such individualistic diseases really do exist.
