We can be truly secure only if we base our security in being true to ourselves and others. If we base our security in trying to be successful in conforming ourselves to the expectations/demands of others; then we find that their expectations/demands change about as fast as we meet them. The target is constantly moving and we cannot have any reasonable hope of being successful. If we base our security in defensive measures by which to make ourselves safe we fail; because our best defensive measures end up alienating even the people whom we want to respect and admire us, and whom want to be close to. The more insecure we are, the more defensive we are; and the more we alienate others---making them defensive towards us. If our security is not rooted/grounded in being true to ourselves and others; then it is likely to be rooted in manipulative defensive measures which include secrecy, deception, dishonesty, and collusive games of addicts and their codependent supporters. Such measures are alienative and generated additional measures of insecurity on the part of people around us; measures of insecurity which increase our own insecurity. We can be truly secure only if we base our security in being true to ourselves and others. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
