In each community, culture and society there are people who regard some forms of dishonesty as acceptable tools to be used in the manipulation of people; and they respect people who are skillful in dishonestly manipulating people for private gain, profit and advantage. There are many people who are enmeshed in collusive games of mutual self deception: they confuse themselves and each other about what is true, and what is not true; they themselves are the victims of their own use of dishonesty in manipulating other people. They do not know how dishonest they are being. In each instance there are people in the community who are unable to recognize the difference between the truly honest people, and those manipulative people who respect various forms of dishonesty as acceptable tools of personal manipulation. As a result many manipulative and dishonest people are highly respected, in ignorance of the disintegrations which they promote. Young people who are fundamentally honest are often trapped in the collusive games of mutual self deception of their elders. It is difficult to live as members of an addictive and codependent society which uses dishonesty in personal manipulations, and avoid getting enmeshed in the dishonest manipulations. Such entrapment is particularly difficult for infants and young children to avoid when they are dependent upon the adult members of an addictive and/or codependent family of origin. It is difficult for students in addictive and/or codependent schools, colleges and universities to avoid entrapment in the collusive games of mutual self deception of their teachers, professors, mentors and administrators. Similar statements may properly be made regarding work places and the processes of becoming certified as practitioners in each profession. In each instance it is important for healthy people to work to provide to children, young people and students the cognitive and effective tools with which they can understand the dynamic processes by which they may become entrapped, enmeshed and imprisoned in the collusive games of mutual self deception of their elders; so they may better work to avoid becoming victims of such processes. For a community, culture or society to maintain its integrity, the healthy members of it must work consistently to provide the next generation with the intellectual and affective tools with which to sustain honesty by knowing how to avoid entrapment, enmeshment and imprisonment in collusive games of mutual self deception of powerful addicts and codependents. There are always present some tendencies towards decay, disintegration, and greater entropy. In the absence of wise efforts to counter-balance such tendencies with work towards honesty and integrity; the disintegration of communities, cultures and societies is a natural process.
