We invoke taboos and laws which attempt to control evil behavior. We try to inhibit the fearful behavior of others and try to inhibit our awareness of experiences which generate fear in us. Efforts to control what can not be controlled are doomed to generate more fear and more attempts to gain control. Such efforts are bound to fail, and make us feel that things are out of control, and that we need to try harder to gain control. The primary failure is in our choice of our goal. It is foolish to try to be in control of that which can not be controlled. Human fulfillment is not given to those who are in control. Human fulfillment is not a consequence of an achievement; and certainly it is not a consequence of the achievement of control. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
